RESUME

PUBLISHED BY
SENIOR CLASS

Armstrong Twp. High School

Armstrong, Illinois

FOREWORD

LEFT TO RIGHT: Kay Sconce, Business Manager; Mr. Sims, Advisor; Sheila Marron,
Editor.

We on the annual staff take this opportunity to present to you
the 1963 Resumed and to express our sincere thanks to all those who
have so willingly helped us throughout the year.

We want this yearbook to represent your present and then as
the years go by and your tomorrows become realities instead of
dreams, you may turn through the pages and think for a few moments
of bygone high school days and the memories they held.

WE DEDICATE
THIS RESUME 7
TO

MR. SIMS
AND

MR. BEZELY

To you, Mr. Bezely and Mr. Sims, who have unselfishly
devoted yourselves to the purpose of guiding and instructing us, we,
the Senior Class of 1963, proudly dedicate this Resume. We hope to
leave with you our humble thanks as we recall the fond memories we
have of both of you as our teachers, class sponsors, Coach and Year¬
book Advisor.

Mr. Vernon Husted has been Principal
at Armstrong Township High School for the
past six years. Mr. Husted holds a B.S.Ed.
degree from Illinois State Normal University
and a M.E. degree from the University of
Illinois. Before coming to Armstrong Mr.
Husted taught agriculture at Hume, Illinois,
and Long Point, Illinois. He also served as
Principal at Unit District No. 5, Streater,
Illinois.

By his direction and guidance Mr.
Husted has helped all of us to realize our
responsibilities as maturing young adults.
Through the coming years we will always be
grateful to you, Mr. Husted.

Mrs. Betty Kinney has been the office secretary at our school
for the past nine years. During the last four of these years Betty has
proven to be a friend to which we could always turn for advice and
assistance. Betty, we will always remember all you've done for us.
We all thank you very much.

LEFT TO RIGHT: Steve Ludwig, Student Council: Judy Husted, Class Treasurer; Tom Jarbo, Class President and
Student Council; Gary Saathoff, Class Vice-President; Becky Maxwell, Student Council; Joyce Davies. Student
Council; Tom Johnson, Class Secretary; Dave Hunt, Sergeant-at-arms.

CLASS HISTORY

We, the graduating class of 1963, find ourselves now looking back over what we have done since
entering High School. We started our Freshman year with 32 scared and worried students.

Under the sponsorship of Mrs. Knudson and Mr. McDevitt we elected President, Steve Ludwig;
Vice-President, Jeff Blackford; Secretary, Joyce Davies; Treasurer, Jim Johnson; We were then treated
to the traditional initiation ceremony by the Seniors. We will long remember the crazy costumes we
wore.

We greeted with happiness the long awaited day when we were Sophomores. We started our
Sophomore year feeling much larger in spirit. Following the usual routing we elected President, Jeff
Blackford; Vice-President, Joyce Davies; Secretary, Becky Maxwell; Treasurer, Tom Johnson. Mr.
Sanderson and Mr. Mears became our class sponsors.

With the coming of our Junior year we advanced to the ranks of upperclassmen. This brought
many new problems into our lives, but under the guidance of our class sponsors, Mr. Ahlf and Mr. Stuby,
we were able to overcome them. Our slate of officers ; President, Joyce Davies; Vice-President, Carol
Cornell; Secretary, Anita Fourez; Treasurer, Steve Ludwig. We sold magazine subscriptions and
presented a class play ’’Paint the Town Pink.” In May, for the Big Event, the Junior-Senior Prom and
Banquet, we hired Johnny Crawford to play and decorated the gym to go with our theme ’’Wonderland by
Night."

At last we became ’The Seniors.” Officers for the year were, President, Tom Jarboe; Vice-Presi¬
dent; Gary Saathoff, Secretary, Tom Johnson; Treasurer, Judy Husted. Mr. Bezely and Mr. Sims were
appointed our sponsors. Immediately the annual staff began work on our yearbook "The Resumed. ” We

raised money for the project by selling ads and Christmas Cards. Sheila Marron and Kay Sconce, Editor
and Business Manager of "The Resume'", as well as many other eager beavers, made it possible for us to
produce a nice book. Mr. Sims, our Yearbook Advisor, was a great help to the staff. An enjoyable
class play, "Harvey, " was presented. Then came our prom and Baccalaureate. With the coming of
graduation we realized that the end of our happy days was soon approaching. Although we eagerly
awaited the time when we put on our caps and gowns and received our diplomas, we regret that these
happy days at A.T.H.S. were soon to be in the past.
